Back in the saddle

Well, as I thought, not as easy to keep up with the blog. It takes time, and some sort of schedule to keep it going on a daily basis. Forget doing at night: That is when you want to go to sleep. During the day, too many interruptions. So I [...]

Learning Solutions Day 2

Well, the first thing I discovered is that it is difficult to attend a show, and write about it at the same time. Next time I am going to put some time aside each day. However, first impression is that I need to get over my trepidations of social networking and get on [...]

Getting ready for LS2010

It was a long trip across the country, but I have arrived in Orlando! The pressure is already on to complete today’s blog and start to tweet.
The good news is that I just learned that my good friend Chris Bond is at the show as well: His firm, Bluewater Learning, is one of the exhibitors [...]

Using all the tools!

I am preparing to leave to Orlando for the eLearning Guild Learning Solutions Conference & Expo 2010 in Orlando. So I figured, why not use all the tools out there to publicize my appearance and this event.
So, over the next couple of days, I will try to blog daily (never tried it), do a v-Blog (figure it [...]

Assessments of online training

I have spent the last week talking to a very large Midwest utility about their current training and am astounded on little they think of assessing and evaluating their training. “‘Smile sheets’ are a waste of time”, said one senior manager.
More disturbing is that most of their training is never validated.
So I am left with [...]

LMS Checkup

A thought came up over the weekend: Would LMS users pay for an unbiased assessement of their LMS? I think they would: Many training portals get stale over time. There are useless or bad links, outdated content is not taken off, the “search” functionality becomes useless, and more….
Just like a good car, I believe an [...]

How to Avoid a Train Wreck

For those of you who missed it, I delivered a live webinar presentation today on the topic of “Avoiding a Online Train Wreck” with my “virtual labs” Texan partner, Surgient. It was good, interactive presentation, focused on five steps to avoid having your students walk away from the online training event. It was well publicized, [...]

Back in the Saddle

I’ve been out of touch for several weeks: I went on several long trips (Caribbean, Santa Barbara, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas), for mental relaxation, see an old friend, skiing with my daughter and learn!)
I’ll pick up on the trips at a later time. But the trip to Vegas for LMS 2007 was astounding: I [...]

The last big online meeting application acquisition

Since the day Microsoft bought Placeware several years ago, the big question was what and when was WebEx going to do for exit strategy. For more than a year, WebEx has been looking for a buyer, and found it today in Cisco.
Good for them! Not sure this is the right fit, but Cisco has been needing [...]
